This condition not only severely impacted her appearance but also caused Le to live in shame and insecurity. With her nose nearly ‘disappeared,’ Le always wore a mask to hide her defect whenever she went out<\/p>\n

The pressure from the judgmental stares of those around her prevented Le from living like a normal girl. She was shunned and mocked by her peers, which led her to gradually lose confidence and eventually drop out of school because she could no longer bear the emotional strain. Le\u2019s father, although heartbroken for his daughter, could not afford the treatment costs due to the family\u2019s difficult financial situation. However, he never stopped wishing that his daughter could receive treatment, return to school, and find happiness again.<\/p>\n

The Nose Reconstruction Journey That ‘Challenged’ the Medical Team<\/h2>\n

When the team at Kangnam Cosmetic Hospital took on Lo Thi Le\u2019s case, they evaluated it as a complex and challenging nasal surgery. Le\u2019s nasal area had suffered severe damage\u2014her nasal tip, nasal alar, and nasal septum were completely gone, and the surrounding structure was heavily scarred with contractures. It was nearly impossible to use the local skin flap, so they had to resort to using a distant skin flap.<\/p>\n

Stage 1: Skin Expansion and Scar Revision<\/strong><\/p>\n

The first challenge the doctors faced was the process of inserting a skin expander. The procedure of injecting water into the expander was delayed because of the time required to treat infections, which prolonged the surgery. The purpose of placing the skin expander on the forehead was to use an autologous skin flap to cover the nasal defect.<\/p>\n

Stage 2: Flap Transfer and Nasal Reconstruction<\/strong><\/p>\n

The medical team decided to use rib cartilage to reconstruct the entire nasal tip, nasal alar, and nasal septum. At the same time, they transferred the flap to shape the nose. Every small detail had to be carefully considered, from choosing the right reconstructive materials to precisely shaping the soft tissue and bones.
